Gabra hut. Grass hut in a Gabra village, North Horr village, Chalbi Desert, Kenya. The Gabra people are camel-herding nomads from the Chalbi Desert of northern Kenya and the highlands of southern Ethiopia. These light, dome-shaped tents are called mandasse. They are made of acacia roots covered with sisal grass mats, textiles, and camel hides. They can be completely disassembled and converted into a camel-carried palanquin.
