The inventor is named as J. B. Metivier of Paris, France, and the design is dated to 1867. Hydrostatics is a branch of fluid mechanics, and deals with hydraulics, the use of fluids in engineering applications, including transport. Pressurized liquids can be used for the generation, control, and transmission of power.
