Atoms for Peace programme. Page from an educational booklet on the USA's international 'Atoms for Peace' programme that followed the famous speech delivered by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower on 9 December 1953 to the United Nations. Seen by some as a tactical part of the Cold War, the USA launched this programme to distribute nuclear applications around the world. This page gives examples of peaceful applications of radioisotopes and radiation for laboratory research and to increase crop yields. A nuclear power station is explained across bottom. This 1956 supplement is from 'Free World' published by the US Information Agency (USIA).
