The mineral hessonite is a variety of grossular, a member of the garnet mineral group with chemical formula Ca3Al2Si3O12. Hessonite belongs to the cubic crystal system and the crystals are often well developed, with gemlike faces sometimes lightly striated. Hessonite is much in demand as a gemstone, with its characteristic, translucent orange to dark red colors. Origin is Richmond, Quebec, actual height of sample is 75 mm
