Test for carbon dioxide. The liquid in the test tube is a saturated solution of calcium hydroxide (limewater), which is colourless (left). When air is bubbled into it through a glass straw the carbon dioxide turns the limewater cloudy (right). This is because calcium carbonate is precipitated out as a white suspended solid.
