LCD television. This uses a liquid crystal display to show images. LCD technology is relatively inefficient in light use as it relies on successive filtering steps to produce colour. The contrast ratio is limited to about 1600:1, modern light emitting diode (LED) screens can achieve ratios of 5000000:1 or more.
