Charles Hastings (1794-1866), British physician. Hastings grew up in Worcestershire and studied at the University of Edinburgh. He made a conscious choice to pursue his medical career in Worcester, rather than Edinburgh or London. In the 1850s, he invested in local housing to improve public health, and founded the Worcester Museum of Natural History (1833). He founded the Provincial Medical and Surgical Association in 1832, the organisation that later became the British Medical Association (BMA). He was knighted in 1850. This photograph, by Ernest Edwards (1837-1903), was published in 'Photographs of Eminent Medical Men' (volume 1, 1867).
