Flooding in the Balkans, combined infrared and optical satellite image. North is at top. The Adriatic Sea is at lower left. The area of heaviest flooding (blue, centre) is along the Sava River on the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina to the south and Croatia to the north. Serbia is at centre right. This flooding (the worst in 120 years) resulted from several days of heavy rain, causing 3000 landslides and extensive damage. The image data provided by the Land Atmosphere Near real-time Capability for EOS (LANCE), was obtained on 19 May 2014 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA's Aqua satellite.
