Parasitized silkworm. Coloured 3D micro-computed tomography (CT) scan of a silkworm, the larva of a silk moth (Bombyx mori), that has been parasitized by a wasp. Some parasitic wasps lay their eggs inside the body of other insects. The eggs then hatch and feed on the internal soft tissues of the insect before emerging from the body of their host. The budding structures (fat, hair-like) shown here are the pupa of the wasp that have grown up and emerged from inside the caterpillar.
