SYMBOLS - OCCULT ART - SEAL OF SOLOMON One of a series of influential occult engravings by William Law, in explication of the principles in the arcane thought of the Rosicrucian, Jacob Boehme, from The Works of Jacob Behmen, The Teutonic Theosopher, Vol 1, 1764. Plate 10 illustrates the saving (but not the redemption) of Adam by the coming of Christ (symbolized here by the overlapping I and C, which stands for Jesus Christ). Adam is lifted from the dark pit by the triangle that is centred on the Sun. Sophia, and the stars still radiate their influences towards Adam, yet Adam still remains in the grasp of Satan. In his text, Boehme makes clear that the touching of the two triangles is of deep spiritual significance. That which stands on the earthly globe is a fiery triangle, and an emblem of Adam's soul. The emblem of Christ stands upon top of the other - the 'watery triangle', and their positions indicate that the Soul's Desire may draw itself up to merge with the triangle of Christ, and thereby form the Seal of Solomon, 'the most significant Character (or magic symbol) in all the Universe'. Only then will the reunion with Sophia be possible, and regeneration achieved. The quotations are from William Law's An Illustration of the Deep Principles of Jacob Behmen, the Teutonic Theosopher.
