PACT - WITCHCRAFT - GRANDIER Facsimile of the pact drawn up between the demons and the French priest, Urbain Grandier, circa 1634. Although clearly a forgery, this document was used as evidence against him, at his trial in Loudun in 1634. It contributed to his sentence, which was that he be tortured and burned alive. This pact is written in mirror-writing Latin. The first two lines read (when reversed): Nos pptens Lcfr juvnte Stn Blzbb Lvtn Elm- atq Astarot alisq: hdie habems accept pct foedreris Ub/GrandrO These translate: We, the all-powerful Lucifer, supported by Satan, Beelzebub, Leviathan Elimi, and Astaroth, and others, have this day accepted the pact of allIance with Urbain/GrandierO The 'demons' signed the pact with their individual names, and with invented sigils, which have no relationship with the demonic tradition. The pact was reproduced facsimile by Collin de Plancy, Dictionnaire Infernal, 1832, who claimed that the document came to him from the archives of Poitiers, where they were preserved before the French Revolution.
