GREECE AUG-15-2012International migration in Greece: 'The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of some socio-economic factors affecting immigration in Greece and the relation of these factors to those affecting internal migration and the migration process as a whole.' An econometric model is elaborated using data for 1981. The findings show that standard of living and other socioeconomic factors play an important role in the decision to migrate; particularly in the case of internal migration. The changes take place and how the ways in which various countries respond to them depend mainly on the correlation of forces (of which class forces continue to be of great importance) and their expression in the political space. The dominant theoretical frame assumes that all governments; regardless of their political coloration; are forced to follow the same policies because of the need to be competitive in the globalized economy.IN THE PHOTO A YOUNG GREEK WOMAN IS REQUIRED TO MOVE TO FIND WORK TO-DAY -LOST WAS HER NOMAL JOB-INTRENAL-MIGRATION FOR WORK IS NOT EASY IN GREECE WHERE SOME TIMES JOBS CAN BE FOUND IN RUAL AREAS AS THE ISLANDS.
