The book-fish - a cod that was brought to Cambridge market on 23rd June 1626, and found to contain a book in its stomach. Wrapped in sail-cloth, it contained treatises on religious subjects by John Frith, written when he was imprisoned in Oxford in a fish-cellar, where some of his companions died from breathing in 'the impure exhalations of unsound salt fish'. - 固opFoto / Fortean
