Les Halles at night. Outside the famous cafe Au Pied de Cochon where a street seller of seafood has his stall of oysters and mussels for sale which are sold by weight to passers-by to take home and cook. Here are a couple of "fetards" - revellers - out on a cold night enjoying the spectacle of Les Halles after going to a concert. The lady is wearing an exquisite fur coat and the man an expensive coat. The street seller is standing by a well worn wooden kitchen chair where he spends many hours seated and sheltered from the wind by a small tree in a plant pot. He would sit out in the bitterly cold and had done so for years in order to earn a modest living. A notice on the wall announces "Grande Degustation Fruits de Mer 4 F". Waiters would come out of the cafe and take from the street seller orders of shellfish to customers inside. Rue Coquilliere next to the huge church of Saint-Eustache and opposite the meat pavilion, Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
