Ardizzone Imperial War Museum Edward Jeffrey Irving Ardizzone (16 October 1900 - 8 November 1979) was a writer and illustrator, especially of children's books. His best known work is the Tim series, featuring the maritime adventures of the eponymous young hero. As well as writing and illustrating his own books, Ardizzone also illustrated books written by others, including the novels of Anthony Trollope. He worked as an official war artist in World War II. His style is naturalistic but subdued, featuring gentle lines and delicate watercolours, but with great attention to particular details. Ardizzone died of a heart attack in 1979. ?006 TopFoto
