The Lloyd Dam , named after Sir George Lloyd , which is approaching completion at Bhatgar , 30 miles from Poona , will form the greatest irrigation scheme in the world . The water stored by the dam will form a lake about 18 miles long and 46 miles in circumference , and it will afford protection for an area nearly twice the size of Surrey .
