Eleven killed in Britain ' s worst air crash . Belgian air liner hits Surrey hillside at 200 miles an hour . Eleven people , all the passengers and crew of a Belgian Sabena Airways machine were killed when the liner crashed into a hillside at Tatsfield , Surrey , at nearly 200 miles an hour . The crash is the worst civil flying disaster that has occured in Britain . The plane was flying low owing to ice formation on the wings , and it is believed that in the darkness the pilot filed to see the hill into which he crashed . Wreckage of the machine was strewn over the hillside for half a mile . Sir Joh Corden , one of the leading technical experts of monoplane and tank design , and two women , Mrs Schueler and Miss Szeya , were among the passengers killed . The machinne , which was a triple engined Savein monoplane of Italian make , was flying from Brussels to Croydon . Photo shows , police searching the wreckage of the fuselage of the plane . 11 December 1935
