First pictures of Hindenburg arrival in America . Brought to Europe by giant airship on return flight . These pictures , brought back to Europe by the Hindenburg herself on her record return flight , are the first received in London of the arrival of the world ' s largest airship at Lakehurst , New Jersey , after her record maiden crossing of the North Atlantic . Hindenburg crossed to America in 69 hours and completed the return flight in record time at an average speed of 78 miles an hour . The Atlantic was crossed in 29 hours 22 minutes .
