Italian airmen decorated by Marshal de Bono at Farewell review . Just before he handed over the supreme command of the Italian forces in Abyssinia to Marshal Badoglio , Marshal de Bono decorated eight airmen , including Count Ciano , Mussolini ' s son in law , at the Armara Military Aerodrome . They received a silver medal for valour . A gold medal was awarded posthumousky to Sergeant Dalmazio Birago , who died from wounds received in a bombing raid .At the conclusion of the ceremony Marshal de Bono made a farewell review of the airmen .
