Golden Eagle awaits the hunt . In the mountainous state of Kazakstan , not far from the frontier of the Soviet Union and Western China , fox hunting is done with trained Golden Eagles , birds of prey which are among the fiercest and strongest on earth . These pictures are probaly the first ever made of this remarkable sport . The bird , wearing blinkers , waits patiently until the hunter sights an animal out of range of his gun . The blinkers are then removed , the eagle spreads his powerful wings and flies up into the air , until , having sighted his prey , he swoops . The victim is often killed by the force of the impact . In any case , the eagle ' s beaks and claws get to work , and in a short time the heavy carcase of the fox is soaring back to the hunter in the strong grip of the bird ' s talons .
