Dogs trained for police duties at Berkshire kennels. 30 dogs, some of them mongrels, which will eventually accompany a London policeman on lonely beats, are being trained under a Home Office experiment for police duties at Washwater, near Newbury, Berkshire. The animals are taught to guard a policeman's cycle while he searches a house, to intercept anyone coming out, and even to search a house while the officer remained outside. Photo shows, some of the police hounds at the Berkshire kennels. On the left of three pure English bloodhounds and the other two are a cross between an otter and bloodhound. 20 January 1938
