Law courts ready for divorce 'rush' expected in New Year. New marriage act comes into force. In anticipation of the expected flood of the divorce applications when the new marriage act, sponsored by Mr A P Harbert comes into force on New Year's Day, the Poor Parsons Committee at the Law Courts (London) has completed his preparations for the 'rush'. There are indications that thousands of people who previously sought only separation in the police, courts are now waiting to apply for a divorce. Under the new act, a judicial separation order may be turned into a divorce. Mr Adrian Hassard Short, Secretary of the Committee, has already obtained an increase in his staff at the Law Courts. It is believed that under the new Act, minimum costs in an undefended suit will be reduced from 瞿70 to 瞿50. Photo shows, Mr Adrian Hassard Short, secretary of the Poor Parsons Committee, dealing with a pile of divorce applications in his offices at the Law Courts, London.
