A girl of 18 beat Captain George Eyston, the world land speed record holder, when the first race meeting of modern hydroplane to take place near London was held on to Ruislip reservoir. The girl was Miss Beryl Pritchard, daughter of Mr Percy Pritchard, president of the British Hydroplane Racing Club, who gained second place in the First Ruislip "Whippet" race, while captain Eyston finished third. The meeting was organised by the British Hydroplane Racing Club in corporation was this group of men connected with the Royal Motor Yacht club (of which the King is Admiral).
