Conductor, Gibson, Honoured. 12th September 1964. Mr Alexander Gibson, Conductor of the Scottish National Orchestra, with Provost Edward Lawson, after Mr Gibson was made a Burgess of his native Burgh of Motherwell and Wilshaw yesterday. Also present at the freedom ceremony were Mr Gibson's wife, Veronica and his mother, Mrs Gibson, who travelled up from her London home for the occasion. In a speech, Mr Gibson said, my father, had he been alive, would have been a proud man today, and my mother who is here today has made many sacrifices to enable me to pursue the career of my choice. I shall always be grateful to her for her courage and understanding of my aims.
