Katmandu, Nepal: picture from 1937 of Tribhubana Bis Vikram Sah, the King of Nepal (under umbrella) during celebrations of his Silver Jubilee. He was then 31 years of age - he came to the throne in 1911. The latest reports from Nepal say that the King ('The Golden Basilisk') has fled from his palace and has taken refuge in the Indian Embassy at Katmandu, the capital, in order to escape the shackles of the Prime Minister, who is the virtual ruler of this land of the Gurkhas. With the King went the Crown Prince, aged 30, and the Prince's eldest son. Now the Parliament have enthroned the Crown Prince's second son, four-years-old Dhiraja Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Deva - so ending the 39 years reign of his 44-years-old grandfather.
