Woodblock print of a station and trains of the first railway line, running between Tokyo and Yokohama. The line was opened in 1872. Shinagawa, the first major station south of Tokyo Station, is one of Japan's oldest stations, opened on June 12, 1872 (Gregorian calendar) when the service between Shinagawa and Yokohama provisionally started, four months before the inauguration of "Japan's first railway" between Shimbashi and Yokohama through Shinagawa on October 14, 1872. This line is a part of the Tokaido Main Line. Nothing remains of the original structure. 固opFoto
