Murad III, sultan of Turkey (1575-95). Murad was generally sympathetic to the plight of Palestine's Jewish population and to its appeals against the extortions and oppression of corrupt local governors. In 1576 an order was drawn up for the deportation of 1000 Jewish families from Safed to Famagusta in Cyprus - it was later rescinded by Murad. 固opFoto
