Donkeys - Mr. Lewis Morris and his wife Dorothy, who own the Grove Hill Donkey Stud at Hellingly, Sussex, have very fixed ideas about the social standing of donkeys. They consider that their donkeys are refined creatures of pedigree, far removed from the traditional humble ass, and in order to practise what they preach, they never object when one of their donkeys wants to join them in their granary home at the stud. Three years ago when they moved to Hellingly from London, they decided to buy a donkey, and ended up buying a mother and daughter, with the daughter in foal. Now they have more than 20 donkeys at the stud, and their stud stallion Barnabas recently came second in the Donkey Stallion Class at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
