A great Danish writer and critic of european fame: The late Georg Brandes. With his literary criticism and lectures delivered at Copenhagen University(1871-1883), he renewed both the concept of literature and literary criticism in Denmark. He wanted literature to be progressive, realistic and debating problems. 1927 Georg Brandes was a good friend of the Danish fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen.They often met to discuss literature and everyday things. Georg Brandes made a disertation about Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales giving both good and bad crticism. The year of 2005 is the 200-year anniversary for Hans Christian Andersen's birth. Due to this there will be a global celebration to remember and honour the Danish author.
