Africans assembled outside Pretoria Supreme Court raise their fists in anger after hearing the verdicts in the Rivonia Sabotage trial, in which South Africa's "Black Pimpernel" Nelson Mandela, former leader of the banned African National Congress, and seven other co-defendants were convicted of sabotage and plotting to overthrow the all-white government. All eight defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment. 11th June 1964
