Hastings: Song-and-dance man Noel Coward (righ) raises his glass to drink a toast with some of the same men whom he entertained in Burma in March, 1944, when he entertained the troops at the request of Lord Mountbatten. This reunion took place when Noel Coward - who just recently turned down an offer of 8,000 - dollars plus expenses for a season's cabaret at New York's Waldorf-Astoria - was the guest of honour at the Hastings Branch of the Burma Staff Association. Reason he turned down the cabaret offer was because he is organising a dinner and dance at the Cafe De Paris in aid the Actor's Orphanage. 2 November 1952
