Following the 'abdication' of James II, Parliament drew up the Declaration of Rights, which provided a catalogue of the tyrannical behaviour of the king and asserted the rights of Parliament against those of the Crown. The Declaration was presented to William and Mary alongside the formal offer of the throne in February 1689, with the implication that the offer was conditional on their acceptance of the terms contained in the document. The Declaration served as the basis of the Bill of Rights introduced by Parliament later in the year.
