These five go-ahead office girls with the Surrey firm Colt Heating and Ventilation are backing Britain this year. And so, judging by the telegram they are holding, is Prince Philip. With a big smile and a thumbs up, the five young girls have started a nationwide put Britain back on her feet again campaign following their decision to work an extra half-hour day for Britain without pay. The Duke of Edinburgh described their effort as the most heartening news I have heard in 1967, the most heartening news I have heard in 1967 in a telegram they received at the weekend. The girls (pictured at their office today) are back row from left: 20 year old Joan Southwell of Surbiton, Carol Fry 16 from Molesey in Surrey, and Brenda Mumford 15 of Surbiton. Kneeling are 17 year old Margaret Sharman of Molesey and Valerie White 21 from Chessington. - 2nd January 1967 -
