In order to minimise the risk of floods between Walton on Thames and Weybridge in Surrey workmen are cutting a channel across a band of the River Thames - the Channel will divert the river and provide an outlet for the surplus water which comes down in flood time - while workmen are digging the channel a man is constantly at work pumping water from the excavations - photo shows a general view of the work in progress at Weybridge showing Thames on right and the new Walton Bridge and channel on left February 2nd 1935
