Despite working under difficulties Great Western Railway engineers have between intervals of traffic and without interruption of the timetables replaced a bridge leading into the Reading goods siding in a modern structure able to take heavy loads The sections of the new bridge each 100 feet long 13 feet 9 inches high and weighing 30 tons apiece were brought from Wolverhampton to Reading by special train but owing to the abnormal height stops were made at thirteen bridges on the route so the clearance could be measured The replacement of the Reading Bridge was made necessary by the increased weight of locomotives rolling stock and goods traffic Photo shows removing the main sections of the old bridge at Reading A crane lifting 26 tons - one of the GWR's largest June 17th 1935
