With the tempreature at 32 degrees, the swimming race for the Gilbert Varley Memorial Trophy was held in the Serpentine, Hyde Park. Sand had to be sprinkled on the ice-covered diving boards. The race was won by A J Goffrey, with Tom Carmody and K N Wood dead-heating behind. Carmody and Wood tossed for second and third place with Carmody winning the toss.
