Donald Campbell pictured in London with a model of the new Bluebird car in which he will attempt the world's land speed record at the Bonneville Sales Falts, Utah, USA next September. Bluebird the result of 5 years of planning with 69 leading British Companies involved in the manufacture is now nearly complete. He told the press " our immediate goal is to carry the world land speed record to beyond 400 mph". Bluebird is powered by a Proteus gas turbine engine, which can be on full load within a minute of starting and can be shut down just as quickly. No clutch or change-speed gears are required.
