THE KOH-I-NOOR DIAMOND This world-famous diamond has a recorded history stretching back many hundreds of years. In 1304 it became the propety of the Sultan of Delhi, Ala-ed-din-Khilgi; it afterwards passed through many hands until, in 1739, it was acquired by Nadir Shah, who named it Koh-i-noor, or "Mountain of Light". Later, Ranjit Singh, "The Lion of the Punjab", had it set in a bracelet as shown. After the Indian Mutiny, the East India Company presented it to Queen Victoria. In 1911, it was set in the front cross-patee of the State Crown (also shown in our picture) made for Queen Mary's Coronation..
