Police and demonstrators wrestle over a body - Communal rioting continues in Calcutta. The coffin containing the body of a murdered police inspector being wrested from the crowd carrying it and placed on a Police lorry. The procession which accompanied this coffin through the streets of Calcutta, stoned shops, lorries, buses and pedestrians and the communal flare up that followed produced a death toll officially estimated at twenty five, but unofficially at fifty. 17 July 1947
