Ulster's Union Jack in the Albert Hall The most remarkable political demonstration of recent times was held in the Albert Hall , when 1,200 delegates from loyalist societies all over Ireland protested against the great betrayal by Home Rule , and were joined by 12,000 English Unionists . A shout went up when the Duke of Abercorn unfolded the Union Jack , and planted it beside the chair . The audience then spontaneously broke into song : ' Shall we from the Union sever ? By the God that made us , Never ! Wave the flag we love for ever , Over us and you ! ' 1893
