A quaint ceremony dating back many centuries took place at the Law Courts when the King's Remembrancer Sir George Bonner received the annual quit rents - six horse-shoes and 61 nails were solemnly handed over on behalf of the Sheriffs of Middlesex for renting the site of an old forge which stood in the Strand while the Ciry Corporation tendered a hatchet with a bill hook and two bundles of twigs in lieu of faggots for ancient property in Shropshire - photo shows Sir George Bonner receiving the hatchet from representative of the City Corporation at the ceremony October 25th 1934
