The battleship USS Washington, Victor in a battle with a 75 mile an hour gales during the crossing, is shown on arrival in New York, carrying hundreds of American troops returning home from Europe. Cocky little tugs are jockeying the big battle wagon around in the river on which floating ice makes a scene reminiscent of the river scene and Uncle Tom's Cabin. The GIs didn't mind the tough weather, all being too happy at the prospect of spending the New Year in the United States. 28 December 1945
