Waterloo Bridge closed for opening. This morning, (Monday), Waterloo Bridge, which was made available to 6 lines of traffic in November, 1944, was closed for half an hour when the official 'opening' ceremony was performed by 'the man who built the bridge', Mr Herbert Morrison, Lord President of the Council. The new Waterloo bridge is the monument to Mr Morrison's years as leader of the LCC (1934-1940). Lord Latham, the present Leader of the Council was present with the chairman of the LCC. Mr Charles Robertson, the Vice-Chairman, Mrs E M Newman and the deputy chairman, Mr FW Dean. Photo shows, the Rt Hon Herbert Morrison, cutting the tape drawn across the roadway at the northern end of the bridge with a pair of scissors, which were contained in a box made of wood from piles useful foundation of the old bridge. 10 December 1945
