Channel swimming again. 27-year-old George Berroeta, a wine merchant from Santiago, Chile, has begun serious training for his bid to swim the Channel, the first since 1939. He is in good hands, E H Temme, who holds the distinction of being the sole swimmer to beat the Channel both ways, is in charge of his training and is teaching him all the tricks of currents and tide. Berroeta already has an impressive swimming record. He holds the River plate record, having some 73 km in 23 hours, 23 minutes, and represented his country in the Olympic Games in Berlin. He is now training at Dover for his Channel attempt, to take place within the next three or four weeks from France to Britain.
