Man powered hare beats electricity ban. The first greyhound racing meeting to be held in London since the government banned the use of electricity at dog tracks in the fuel crisis was held at Stratford Stadium, today (Friday). Power to drive the mechanical hare was provided by two men, working a device, invented by Mr Phil Freeman, general manager of the stadium, to obviate the use of electricity or other fuel any kind. A plan to power the hare from a dynamo charged by two men was turned down by the Fuel Ministry. Photo shows, the device, adapted from a tandem bicycle, being operated to drive the mechanical hare at Stratford Stadium during racing today (Friday). 21 February 1947
