Appointed chairman of the Royal commission on the press is 70-year-old said David Ross, provost of Oriel College, Oxford. Sir David has previously served on a number of commission of enquiry, including the departmental committees on the women and textile trade in Yorkshire 1936, the health of cardroom workers, 1937 and from the fair wages clause in the same year. It was also a member of the Department committee on holidays with pay 1937. Since 1941 he has been a member of the National arbitration tribunal and chairman of the civil service arbitration tribunal since 1942. The 2 years during the war he was chairman of the Appellate Tribunal first conscientious objectors. 26 March 1947
