The first commercial helicopter to land and take off in London, and capable of turning a one-hour journey by road into a 10 minute journey by air, was demonstrated on the Harrodian Ground, Barnes, today before Lord Nathan, Minister of civil aviation and other representatives of government departments. The machine, an American Sikorsky S. 51, is to be made under licence by the Westland company. Picture showing: showing how a rescue could be affected at sea, by the helicopter hovering over a small dinghy while a man climbs from the craft of the ladder into the machine. This was one of the demonstrations given on the Harrodian this afternoon. 11 June 1947
