For the first time since 1940, racing was resumed at London's own racecourse, Alexandra Park, known to thousands of racegoers as "Ally Pally" today. A record crowd watched Gordon Richards, riding in his usual fine form, come home on two winners in the juvenile Selling Plate and the London Cup.
