A special Westminster Abbey service, followed by the traditional procession of judges to the Palace of Westminster, marked the opening of the Michaelmas Law sittings today. Resplendent in their stately robes and full wigs, the Lords of appeal, judges, official referees, County court judges, King's counsel, and offices of the Supreme Court, brought a splash of colour to the greyness of the London scene as headed by the Lord Chancellor, they followed the Tipstaff, the mace bearer and the purse of state in solemn procession from the ancient abbey.
