King unveils his father's Memorial. In spite of the rain which fell this morning. A large crowd of people gathered to watch the King unveiled the Memorial statue to his father, King George V, at Abingdon Street, Westminster, today (Wednesday). Members of Royalty also attending included Queen Mary, the Queen, as Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. Simplicity, which the late King Lot, was the keynote at the ceremony with only a fanfare of trumpets at the arrival and departure of the King and Queen to add pageantry to the programme. Photo shows, against a fitting background provided by the Houses of Parliament, the King delivers his unveiling speech following the ceremony, the actual unveiling of the Memorial statue to his father, King George V in Westminster, today (Wednesday). 22 October 1947.
